Simple past tense is a kind of tense which is used to describe an event or action that happened already in certain time in the past.

The pattern of verbal sentences
(+) S +  V2 + Complement
(-) S + did not + V1 + Complement
(?) Did + S + V1 + Complement

Example :
(+) I went to Singapura last week.
(-) I didn’t go to Singapura last week
(?) Did I go to Singapura last week?


The pattern of nominal sentences
(+) S + were/was + (adj,adv….)
(-) S + were/was + not + (adj, adv…)
(?) Were/was + S + (adj, adv…)
Example :
(+) They were very happy last night.
(-) They were not very happy last night
(?) Were they happy last night?
